There is more than one route onto our courts. Pick the one that fits where you are now.

Volunteer as an Activator

No qualification needed. A free two-hour LTA course, an enhanced DBS check and you can help run Free Park Tennis at one of our venues. It is how a lot of our coaches started.

Coaching FAQs

Something else on your mind? Get in touch and we will happily talk it through.

Do I need a coaching qualification?
Not always. You can start as a volunteer Activator, which takes a free two-hour LTA course, and we will support you as you work towards your qualifications. Paid coaching roles start at Core.
Are roles employed or freelance?
Both. We offer employed and self-employed roles, and each advert shows which one it is.
What checks will I need?
All coaches need an enhanced DBS check, safeguarding training and first aid. We help arrange these before you start.
Can I apply if there are no vacancies near me?
Yes. Register your interest and we will contact you when a role opens in your area.
How do I move up a level?
Progression is reviewed at your six-monthly check-in with your line manager, and it is on the agenda whether or not you raise it. We look at your qualifications, your delivery, what players and parents say, and how you work with the rest of the team. If the answer is not yet, you get specific feedback and a date to come back to it. Senior roles in particular only open where a programme has grown to need one, so the timing depends on your venue as well as on you.
