Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and experienced tennis coach to join our established multi-club programme as the Head of Tennis, South Oxfordshire. This full-time role is based in South Oxfordshire, overseeing five well-established tennis clubs within a 30-minute drive of each other. The successful candidate will lead the tennis programmes at Portcullis Tennis Club in Wallingford, Boundary Park Tennis in Didcot, Blewbury Tennis Club and additional South Oxfordshire venues. This role is integral to the delivery and development of the largest and most successful tennis programmes in Oxfordshire.

Key Responsibilities:

On-Court Delivery:

  • Maintain and deliver high-quality tennis coaching sessions, including LTA Youth Start, Tennis Express, Adult Sessions, and Cardio Tennis.
  • Develop and enhance school/club links to expand outreach in South Oxfordshire.
  • Provide individual and group coaching, inheriting 15-20 hours of regular individual coaching sessions.

Off-Court Management:

  • Oversee tennis programmes, assess programme quality with the Programme Manager, and manage court bookings and small administrative tasks.
  • Provide outreach support, assist facility users, and perform additional duties to foster programme growth.

Personal Coaching Business:

  • Supplement income through individual coaching on a self-employed basis.
  • Participate in coach meetings and training sessions, both on and off court.
Hours and Compensation:
  • Full-time role with 25 hours per week plus up to 15-20 hours of individual coaching.
  • Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
  • Potential additional income from personal coaching, competitions, camps, and community events is estimated at £12,000 – £18,000 per year.
  • Total combined income between £38,474 – £41,349.

Ideal Candidate:
  • LTA Qualified and Accredited Level 3 coach or higher.

Person Specification:

On-Court:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Accredited LTA Coach.
  • Ability to tailor sessions to various skill levels and ensure a dynamic, engaging learning environment.
  • Commitment to safeguarding policies and promoting a positive, inclusive sporting environment.

Off-Court Responsibilities:

  • Strong planning skills for developing and executing long-term programme growth.
  • Ability to engage with NTA management, schools, parents, and committees.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

General Skills and Qualities:

  • Dedication to personal and professional development, staying current with tennis coaching trends, sports management, and customer service.
Overview of Venue:

Our South Oxfordshire Cluster includes five venues with well-established programmes:

  1. Portcullis LTC: Located in Wallingford with 330+ members, 5 all-weather hard courts, and floodlight facilities. Competes in various county competitions.
  2. Blewbury LTC: Situated close to Didcot with 200+ members, 4 all-weather LED floodlit courts, and a range of social tennis and match play opportunities.
  3. Boundary Park Tennis: The largest programme in the cluster with 4 LED floodlit courts in Didcot.
  4. Benson Tennis Club: A 4 floodlit court well-established venue with a thriving coaching programme. Close to Wallingford. There is no on-court delivery at this club, as we have an established coach already in place.
  5. Letcombe Tennis Club: Situated close to Wantage with over 100+ members, 2 all-weather courts with a Saturday coaching programme. There is no on-court delivery at this club, as we have an established coch already in place.
